Homemade burgers, mocktails, barbecue skewers, burnt cheesecake and more of your sahur cravings will be available this weekend at Big BWN Project’s first-ever virtual event dubbed ‘Virtual Sahur Everyday’.
The annual event which is also known as ‘Sahur Saturday’ will take place from May 2 through the entire month of Ramadhan, featuring nearly 30 local food and beverages vendors.
Founder of Big BWN Project Noorhafizah Hj Rashid said that this year marks the fifth edition of Sahur Saturday but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, some initial plans had to be cancelled.
“We were supposed to have big plans for the event but unfortunately (because) of the current situation, we had to re-innovate,” she said.
With markets and bazaars closed, the team decided to go online and keep the event running while at the same time help alleviate the hardships faced by home-based businesses.
What’s exciting, this year, Big BWN Project is teaming up with up-and-coming delivery service, Ta-Pow! as the official delivery partner which mobile application is set to launch during the sahur event.
The founder of Ta-Pow! Ryan Yusof said that he saw the gap in the growing demand for online food delivery services in the sultanate ever since the pandemic situation.
“Most home-based vendors don’t have the capabilities of transporting their products to different places and we want to provide customers easy access (because) going to the food bazaar is no longer an option. Physically, we are honouring the health ministry’s requirement of social distancing,” he said.
For her part, Noorhafizah said that the idea to partner with Ta-Pow! came to her when she discovered that a majority of the delivery services in the country limit their operations until 9pm.
“If we were to run this virtually, we probably have to find a way where we could integrate having our local businesses and being able to put out their product at a late hour,” she added.
Through the Ta-Pow! platform, customers can easily place their sahur orders from the list of vendors and menus from Big BWN Project and get them delivered to their doorsteps between 9pm and 2am.
The “Virtual Sahur Everyday” event will feature Uncle J’s famous double cheese burger, Wings & Drumettes, refreshing drinks from Mixbros, Desserts by Mrs Khan, keto-friendly food from Berqat Food, Seven Sporks and Ayam Geprek Lemaaas, among others.
To date, some 25 home-based businesses have registered for this year’s Virtual Sahur Everyday Event.
