The best way to fully experience the new VW Golf TSI 1.0 is by comparing it with the previous model, and last week members of the media were given the opportunity to do just that under the invitation of Maju Motors.

At first glance it was hard to distinguish between the new VW Golf TSI 1.0 and the previous Golf 1.2, as there were only minor changes made in appearance.

While still maintaining the classical look, the VW Golf TSI 1.0 features new bumpers and radiator grille, and are equipped with halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillight.

Meanwhile, the interior is a direct lift from the previous TSI 1.2 model, save for new 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system being the new highlighted feature – you can now easily pair your phone to it via Bluetooth.

The new infotainment system also comes complete with an SD Card slot and AUX connectivity.

The front and rear seats are much more comfortable than the previous model, offering more legroom and head rest. VW uses premium-grade materials in the updated Golf TSI 1.0 interior design.

Perhaps the biggest change is in performance, thanks to the new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine.

During our test drive from Starbucks Beribi to Tungku Highway, the 1.0-litre engine in the VW Golf TSI 1.0 impresses with its superior power over the TSI 1.2.

The 1.0-litre engine has a torque peak figure of 200Nm – seamless from the minute you fire it up.

Driving at roundabouts and tight curves was a breeze with the latest model – there is an increase in agility and manoeuvrability in the steering when making sharper turns, producing less body-roll than the previous model.

This makes the TSI 1.0 a lot easier for overtaking.

As for safety enchancements, the upgraded Front Assist features a new pedestrian detection. The new model also comes with Emergency Assist which could detect driver fatigue.

It’s better to experience the Golf TSI first-hand. Visit the Volkswagen Showroom in Beribi to book a test drive on the new Golf TSI 1.0.
