Public Relations Manager of GJPMC Pg Norikhsan PJI PHM Puteh said that the World Heart Day Virtual Run and Cycle 2020 event is to help enlighten individuals of their current health level, encouraging people to participate at their own pace instead of in competition.

Featuring three categories namely; 21km, 42km and 100 miles, the event will be spread out over 24 days with the event period beginning from September 14 until October 8.

“The event would be a good reason for those who have not started their fitness journey. With the social distance measures in place – the event being a virtual one – participants can actually accumulate the distances rather than completing them in one go,” she explained.

Participants of World Heart Day Virtual Run and Cycle 2020 will not be limited to a route map, as the virtual event will allow them to walk, run or cycle at any locations of their choosing including indoors or on a treadmill.

“We want to mobilise people physically and what better way to do that than with this event because anyone can do it. You can participate by logging in the distance while performing your daily activities,” she added.

Using fitness apps such as Nike+, Runtastic, Strava, Garmin, Mapmyrun, Google Fit, Fitbit, Samsung Health, Fitbit Stat, or Parkrun Times, proof must be provided via screenshots and submitted to the organiser before October 10.

“The organisers will help you tally your overall achievements, so it is quite important that submissions are attached with the participants’ name or registration number,” added Pg Norikhsan.

World Heart Day 2020 this year carries the theme “Use Heart to Beat Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)”, to highlight everyone’s responsibility in taking care of their own health and the health of the vulnerable in the society, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic.

The specific theme, calls for everyone to use their “heart, head, influence and compassion” and to look beyond just one’s self. To act in ways that support the community and the most vulnerable; who may be at greater risk during this pandemic.
