Homegrown gym Fitness Zone recently opened its second branch in China.

The newly opened gym, which is owned by Brunei’s own international superstar and entrepreneur Wu Chun, houses the latest workout equipment from TechnoGym SkilMill in a 4,500 square metre facility in Shenzhen.

The new facility features internationally certified group exercise programmes, functional areas, Pilates studio, co-working space, DJ station, a personal training lab, a galactical inspired cycling zone and an Energy Bar for members to relax after their workout session designed personally by Wu Chun and his team.

It is the company’s fourth branch to date.

Hundreds of fans and fitness enthusiasts thronged the grand opening of the centre last week.

In a statement, Wu Chun shared his 15-year experience in the fitness industry and how his late mother inspired him to run a fitness centre.

“My mom was diagnosed with cancer during my early years. So, when I had the capability, it has ever been one of my visions to have a place for people to start in Brunei to be healthy and fit, while achieving their best selves. Incorporating the idea of prevention is better than cure,” said the entrepreneur.

He added: “We started small in The Mall for the first ever branch and I challenged myself to expand horizons. So, I said to myself, why not have a bigger place to accommodate and cater more Bruneians?

“That was when the Kiulap branch was built in 2007. Few more years fast forward, now we are here. It’s never easy but it’s very meaningful to help our members making their dreams come true.”

Last week, Wu Chun was also appointed Disney China Ambassador commemorating Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, owing to his public profile as a philanthropist, entrepreneur and a family man.

“For me, Mickey symbolises everything good and joyful in my childhood. Growing up, Mickey had a great impact also to who I have become now and what I pursue. He loves adventures, trying new things, optimistic and never afraid of dreaming,” he said in a statement.

“As Walt Disney said, all of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. I always tell myself when I am faced with challenging situations, courage is within me. To keep my eyes on the dream,” Wu Chun added.
