Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) is encouraging the public to register through their online platform www.kurma.org.bn, as part of the foundation’s efforts to enhance the management and distribution of dates for Ramadhan this year.

The distribution of dates is an annual project managed by YSHHB, as a personal gift from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and members of the royal family to muslims in the sultanate.

Managing Director of Yayasan Dr Nor Imtihan Hj Abd Razak, who is also the Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development said that there will be about 158.4 metric tonnes of Safawi dates to be distributed with each person receiving one box of 300g of dates.

“To ensure that the distribution of dates will reach all levels of them muslim society (in Brunei), several efforts and new mechanisms have been put in place,” she explained, adding that this year’s distribution procedure would require members of the public to register online first before collecting their dates.

This move, said Dr Nor Imtihan, allows the YSHHB to not only create a more efficient method for the distribution of dates, but also to enable the foundation to collect essential information that will be relevant for the enhancement of the annual project, in the years to come.

“The supply of dates is expected to arrive in the sultanate on April 17, before the month of Ramadhan, Insyallah. This is provided that there are no delays,” she continued.

Similar to previous years, members of the public can collect their dates at the residence of their respective village heads, however, alternative collection points have been set up this year to prevent mass gatherings and to adhere to the Ministry of Health’s social distancing measures.

Furthermore, these new collection points include government ministries and departments for civil servants, their dependents, banks and government linked companies. Uniformed personnel will also be receiving their dates via their respective department and units.

For those unable to register for the distribution of dates online, application forms will be provided at every collection point as an alternative. – Wardi Wasil
